Dominica is a small island nation that is known for its pristine beauty and unspoiled nature. It is the largest and most mountainous of the Windward Islands, with volcanic peaks, mountain streams and rivers, beaches of both black (volcanic) and golden sands, dense forests, quiet lakes, waterfalls, geysers and boiling volcanic pools. The beaches are OK, but the real treasure in Dominica is its hiking trails, rivers and unique culture.
Dominica has 365 rivers that cascade down the island's three mountain ranges. One of those rivers leads to the Emerald Pool Grotto in the heart of the rain forest. The Shopping in Roseau, the capital city, is good and the panoramic view of the city from Morne Bruce is excellent. Travel through the Botanic Gardens where a 15 minute walk will bring you to a secluded waterfall with its crystal clear natural fresh water pool. The fascinating granite reef called "Champagne," is great for diving and is known for its bubbles produced by a hot fresh water geothermal vent.
